If you can get a parking ticket for parking on the correct side of the street with your car facing the wrong way? I guess it varies from place to place, but still.

Yes, you can. I've gotten one years ago. Can't remember the exact law quoted but it got tossed out because meter maid put down a wrong date. Check out your local by-laws.

If the street is maintained by the city, it is illegal even in front of your own property (here anyway). I live in a townhouse neighborhood where the u-shaped street is maintained by us, the property owners, so we can park however we want.
